This weekend, I’ll be heading to Phoenix to deliver a workshop at the EDU Research Group (EDURG) Arizona Conference. It’s the first annual event for the EDURG, and it looks like it’s going to be a great time, considering the crowd and breadth of topics covered. Former Vice President Al Gore will be delivering the keynote, and one of the conference themes is using technology to improve education. This is especially relevant for us, as our workshop (“Walk Before You Run: What To Do Before Your University Embraces Social Media”) is aimed at helping attendees understand the prerequisites to any successful social media initiative. My long time partner and client, Kendra Losee, Associate Vice Chancellor of the National University System, will be co-presenting alongside myself.
Education marketing is an especially interesting (and important) area for us, as e-storm has been advising numerous clients in the higher education space for over a decade. That makes EDURG a great venue for us to share our best practices with some of the best known practitioners in the field. To date, most universities have taken a relatively disorganized approach to social media and online marketing in general. We’ll be addressing this by showing attendees why structure and planning can build a strong foundation in the area of staffing, content and measurement to better understand and engage in social media to the benefit of their organization and their stakeholders.
For those who won’t be attending the conference, I’ll likely be live tweeting from the event (follow me at @wgaultier), and we’ll be uploading the slides from our workshop sometime in the following weeks as well as offered it if you Text e-storm to 53137.
