Situation
Microsoft had created three short videos starring Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the creators of the BBC series “The Office.” The company was having trouble figuring out how to get the videos seen, and they needed help disseminating the videos to gain viral buzz.

Strategy
We knew the content was top notch; it just needed to be seen. So as a WOM consultant to Microsoft, we recommended tapping into social networks, specifically blogs and communities, to help the videos go viral.

Solutions
e-storm created a blog and shared the videos on more than 125 web sites and communities. But what good is success if you don’t know how you got it? So we also developed a system to track views on the Microsoft site, the blog, and the web overall.

Results
Once the videos hit the web, it became the viral outbreak advertisers dream of: more than 1.5M views. Even more importantly, we tracked more than 75,000 “shares” as one viewer passed it along to another and more than 200 links link backs – proving the social networking strategy was a success.
